There are few things in your life that you are going to purchase that you will have as long as you will have your wedding ring. You may buy a car or house and it's entirely possible that you will move on to the next one in five or ten years. Higher karat gold like 18 karat is going to be a little yellower in colour and that is very attractive to some people. It is rare to see anything that is higher than 18 karat gold in a wedding ring as it will be easily damaged.

White gold has also become very popular in wedding rings. Something that many people might not be aware of is the fact that white gold is not necessarily the colour that most people are looking for and is therefore plated with rhodium. To many people it doesn't make sense to have a ring made of certain material that you cannot see. If they want to get the white gold look, then there are other options that they can choose from that might be better.

Platinum has come heavily into favour in recent years and it is a very precious metal. It is definitely going to be much stronger than white gold and it does not need to be plated. It is often used quite pure and most platinum rings are about 95% platinum. It has the advantage of not causing allergies because it is so pure and it has a very white colour that appeals to many people. The drawback to platinum is that it can be quite expensive and particularly if you are looking at a larger ring it can become quite costly.

Even though it is not wise to try and save too much money when it comes to purchasing wedding rings, this is one area where you can save a little bit of money and still get an excellent product. Palladium is a member of the platinum family and it has many of the same attributes that platinum will. It does not have the same cost however, and it is a little bit lighter in weight than platinum.

The profile of a ring is also in an important consideration. If you prefer something that is flat on the inside of the ring, then you can choose from either a d-shaped ring or you can pick what is just called a flat ring. The flat ring will also be flat on the outside as the name suggests, and the d-shaped ring will be rounded on the outside.

There are also two major types of ring profiles that are rounded on the inside of the ring. Many people see this as an advantage as it can be for comfortable for most ring wearers. Similar to the two types of ring that are flat on the inside you can choose to either have a rounded outside or a flat outside. Rings that are rounded on both the inside and the outside are called court profile and those that are running on the inside and flat on the outside are called flat-court rings.

Some people might consider getting rings that have some kind of design on them. It may be something that is just a simple design on the wedding ring. While this might seem like a good idea at the time, it is often the case that it is a fad or fashion and that a few years down the road it won't appear quite as good as it now does. This is the time that you might want to speak up and say that you want a particular style for yourself. If you get the kind of ring that you like, you're more likely to wear it and enjoy it and your partner will probably appreciate that over time more than the fact that it does or does not match theirs.
