There are various methods you can use to clean your wedding ring;
Don't use abrasives or hard bristled brushes to clean your ring. Even soft toothbrushes can cause minute scratches in the surfaces of gold and silver jewellery. The best way to keep your wedding ring clean is to do any of the following;
Jewellery cleaner - Ensure you purchase a jewellery cleaner made for the metal of your wedding ring. This is very important because certain chemicals can damage some metals. So if your ring is white gold, platinum, silver, etc be sure that the cleaner is made for that specific metal. If you have any stones other than diamonds check that they can go in the cleaner. Opals, for example, are very sensitive and can be damaged easily. Don't leave the rings in the cleaner for longer than is stated on the product or overnight as over exposure can be harmful. Remove the ring from the cleaner and rinse in very hot water to remove all traces of the jewellery cleaner. This will ensure there are no traces left on your wedding ring that can damage it. Be sure the plug is in the sink before doing this to avoid losing your ring down the drain! Once you've rinsed your wedding ring, place it on a towel to dry. Your ring should have no water spots and will look very shiny!
Toothpaste - Using toothpaste may be one of the easiest and cheapest ways to keep your ring shining. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a damp, lint free cloth and rub over the ring to create a good lather. Rinse in hot water to remove any toothpaste residue and dry and polish with a lint free cloth.
Baking Powder - Baking soda is a mild and non-abrasive cleaning agent that works well to clean a wedding ring. For rings that are only mildly dirty, take a teaspoon of baking soda and mix with a small amount of water to form a paste. Rub the paste around the ring to clean it without causing any damage to the metal. Rinse in hot water to remove any baking powder residue and dry and polish with a lint free cloth.
Washing up Liquid - Another good way to clean a wedding ring is to use 1 part mild washing up liquid and 3 parts warm water. Take a soft bristle brush and gently scrub the ring. This is a great way to get out lotions, oils and general grime. If the ring is very dirty, you can let it soak overnight. Dry and polish with a lint free cloth.
Take it to a jeweller - Last, but not least, take it to the jewellers and get it professionally cleaned. No amount of self cleaning can beat the care that a professional can provide for your ring. The Wedding Ring Specialist will be happy to give your wedding ring the care it deserves and have it looking like new again.
